Vehicle Description 1979 Pontiac Firebird Formula The second generation Firebirds lasted from 1970 to 1981. You would be hard pressed to find a make and model that had as many major changes, year to year, over a long period of time. The designers and engineers at GM never stopped working to improve a car that was exciting from day one. It's not difficult to identify the birds of particular years with the exception of '79 and '80. In 1979, the smooth enduro nose took the place of the inset grilles of the previous year's model and this is one feature that endured until the end of the run in 1981. For consignment, a 1979 Pontiac Firebird Formula with 558 miles since being built, and what a build! Strap in folks, this is not your Uncle's '79 Formula. It's a one owner car that's been taken to a new level since arriving in our consignor's driveway on November 4, 1978 and it comes with a slew of paperwork including the original window sticker, dealer invoice and papers on the build/ ***Due to modifications of the emissions control devices installed by the manufacturer, please check your local, state, and federal laws to determine if this vehicle is applicable for use on public highways in your area.***   Exterior It wears its original color, but the Dark Carmine Red Metallic is now presented in two stage application that's better than new. A tri-colored stripe makes its way around the entire car and delineates between the carmine and gray band that also encircles this beauty. Formula decals borrow colors from the stripe and show boldly on the door and the spoiler while Firebird birds perch on the C-pillars. Reimagined classics, the polished snowflake wheels are 17-inch here, and are wrapped in 245/45ZR17 tires with an early 2021 date code. The headlights have also been updated with LED's while the dual hood scoops above are capped by contrasting gray paint. Paint and body are spectacular and imperfections are few. They include a flex crack on the Endura, several minor chips touched and untouched, a bit of loose decal in a few spots Interior The uniformity of the Carmine Red continues to the inside where the door panels appear fresh and the front bucket seats, puffy and clean, blending sport with personal luxury. The 2+2 in back looks unused and the entire floor is covered with medium pile red carpet. Our red sport steering wheel fronts the iconic turned aluminum faceplate of the instrument cluster, all looking showroom worthy, right down to the Pontiac branded upgrade on the AM/FM radio with Aux. The 21st century steps in with a FITech screen to monitor engine function while the standard shifter resides in a spotless center console. Black carpet cut to fit covers the trunk floor and completes this clean interior. Drivetrain Godfrey Racing rebuilt the 6.0 liter LS V8 under the hood. Yes, the anemic 301 has been replaced with a fuel injected, 420 horsepower engine with a FITech intake and 4L80E 4-speed automatic transmission behind it. Power is routed to the 10 bolt rear axle with 3.42 gears. The bay is immaculate and the car is equipped with headers, power brakes, power steering, and air conditioning. Undercarriage The build did not stop on the topside, in fact, the underside has been fully revamped with coil overs at both ends included with a 4 link in back. Power disc brakes now occupy all four wheels and dual exhaust runs through Flowmaster mufflers on their way to a perfect escape through Pontiac's epic rear chrome splitters. There are no catalytic converters on board. It's all very, very clean and painted or powder coated to enhance the appearance. No errant fluids. No surface rust. Spotless hardware throughout. Drive-Ability Feels like 1979 right up until you turn the key and the FITech screen lights up and the car emits an exhaust note they could only dream about in '79. We gently roll this clean machine onto the tarmac where it demonstrates good power, straight tracking, and fantastic braking. We note th |
